Conference "How to make films in the age of AI?" by Pierre Cassou-Noguès and Gwenola Wagon

  • Conférence - Rencontre

Conference organized as part of the educational program, open to the public. Gwenola Wagon is an artist and teaches at the Sorbonne Arts School at the University of Paris 1. Pierre Cassou-Noguès is a philosopher and writer, professor at the University of Paris 8 and member of the Institut universitaire de France (IUF).
Pierre Cassou-Noguès and Gwenola Wagon will examine the challenges of film creation in the era of AI, particularly in the continuity of the «office film», found footage and the recycling of images. These artistic currents, which proliferate since the circulation and access to images on social networks, producing films of a poor aesthetic, low definition if we want, seem to be experiencing today a real proliferation, while being deeply transformed by the emergence of generative AI platforms.
As an extension of the book Les images pyromanes, theories-fictions of generative AI and the films Chroniques du soleil noir and Au bord du temps, they will present their ongoing research on the status of the archive in the era of false archives (anarchives), on the imitation of styles in the contemporary context, to ask the question:
What does it mean to be an artist in the imaginary future of generative AIs?
