A tower, lilies, laurels
See a stronghold and a citadel built by Louis XIV and taken in 1709 by his enemies, Reconquered 36 years later by his successor on the throne of France was in itself a feat of arms that could have changed our destiny, but this siege is remarkable especially because it gave rise to a battle whose name still lingers in the collective memory: Fontenoy.
This battle between the English, Dutch and Austrian forces and the army of King Louis XV, commanded in his presence by Marshal Maurice de Saxe, ended with a victory of exceptional scope that is inscribed in the narrative of the history of France.
