Raku internship at Atelier 47

During the course, you will shape, decorate and enamel your clay sculptures, then experience their spectacular firing in the fire. You will leave with your cracked and/or smoked works in Raku.
Raku is a cooking technique of Korean origin that dates from the sixteenth. It was developed in Japan, especially for the tea ceremony.
Each work in Raku evokes the four elements:
Earth
The piece is modeled by hand or by the lathe in grooved clay.
Fire
The piece is fired for the first time at 900°C.
Then enamelled by rapid cooking
Exit from the oven at 1000°C and placed in burning wood chips
The air
The unglazed areas of the room are blackened in the smoke of the shavings.
Water
Soaked in a cold water bath, the temperature difference causes subtle or spectacular cracks in the enamel.
