How can we still reinvent the shape of the vase in contemporary design?
At the invitation of the Centre national des arts plastiques (CNAP), which launched in April 2023 Créer un vase in the continuity of major government orders, 10 winners belonging to a new generation of designers are taking up this question.
Accompanied by drawings, models and working documents, the projects presented explore domestic know-how, local materials – sometimes diverted – as well as industrial processes and digital technologies, offering a broad panorama of contemporary creation.
Questioning uses as well as social and environmental issues, this commission testifies to the diversity and singularity of practices at the crossroads of decorative arts, art, crafts, and industry.
The 21 models of vases made and the rich corpus of studies – more than a hundred elements in total – offer a rare immersion in the research and creation processes of guest designers.
After the Cité du design in Saint-Etienne and the JAD – Jardin des métiers d'Art et du Design in Sèvres, the musée La Piscine will host the travelling exhibition Créer un vase in spring 2027.
