The CARL Astronomical Club invites you to observe the solar eclipse on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. along Lake Heron, near the Quanta parking lot.
A solar eclipse will be visible in Europe on August 12, 2026 at the end of the day. The phenomenon will be partial in Villeneuve d'Ascq with a maximum at 8:14 pm: 90% of the Sun will then be masked by the Moon.
The CARL offers you to observe safely the phenomenon with its instruments adapted for observing the Sun. Pairs of special eclipse glasses will be lent to visitors by the CARL facilitators (subject to availability). You can also buy glasses in pharmacies.
Be careful SUN = DANGER TO THE EYES. You should never look at the sun without suitable eye protection, as this may lead to loss of sight. The use of approved glasses specially designed for the observation of eclipses is mandatory throughout the observation of the phenomenon. Regular sunglasses do not protect.
