Exhibition Kandinsky facing the images

  • Exposition

In renovated buildings, the LaM presents from February 20 to June 14, 2026 a major retrospective dedicated to Vassily Kandinsky, a major figure of 20th century art.
Co-organized with the Centre Pompidou - Paris, this exhibition will explore a little-known aspect of the artist’s work: the role of images.
Photographs, scientific or press illustrations... far from being mere sources of inspiration, they nourish the artist’s visual thought and accompany his quest for abstraction.
Through a unique set of works and archives from the legacy of Nina Kandinsky at the Centre Pompidou and exceptional loans, from public and private European institutions, the exhibition invites to rediscover the importance of images in the work of one of the founders of abstraction.
