Conference - Probing objects in the solar system through stellar occultations

  • Conférence - Rencontre

Tuesday, June 17 of 18h30 to 20h, the Departmental Science Forum invites you to a free conference.
By observing the temporary disappearance of a star masked by an object in the solar system, this technique allows us to measure its size and shape and detect any possible atmosphere, satellites or rings. Josselin Desmars, astronomer at the Paris Observatory, will present scientific results using this technique that have revealed unprecedented details about asteroids, dwarf planets and distant moons. It will also show the essential contribution of amateur astronomers, whose observations, even with small instruments, greatly enrich these scientific discoveries.
In partnership with the D.U. Astronomy & Astrophysics of the University of Lille.
