Conference: the European Beaver

  • Fête de la nature

Long hunted to the point of becoming rare in France, the Castor d'Europe recolonizes gradually the rivers of the region. Vincent Gavériaux paints a portrait of the biggest rodent in Europe.
Strictly vegetarian mammal, easily recognizable by its scale tail in the form of a wide palette of fifteen centimeters, the Castor d'Europe (Castor fiber) is back in the waterways of the metropolis!
Do you know that in addition to the destruction or modification of its habitat, the Castor was rare on the national territory because for a long time hunted for its fur and flesh? Dams, burrows-huts, bark cutting, pencil sharpening, all terms directly related to the Castor.
Learn more about this species, discover its qualities as an “ecosystem engineer” by listening to the portrait of the biggest rodent in Europe by Vincent Gavériaux, a naturalist.
