Cine debat Yi Yi

  • Cinéma

Projection followed by an exchange with Weiyen Tseng, PhD student in film and audiovisual studies (Paris 3), in partnership with .
Masterpiece ofEdward Yang, Yi Yi is a family fresco of rare accuracy: a choral film that observes, with humor and delicacy, a Taiwanese family traversed by the upheavals of everyday life—marriage... until mourning. In a precise staging, the film captures these "micro-events" that rock an existence and touch on the universal.
The story follows notably NJ, a quadragenarian engineer: on the evening of a wedding, his mother-in-law falls into a coma, while an early love resurfaces after twenty years, triggering a deep questioning—for him, as well as for his wife and children.
À (re)découvrir en version restaurée 4K: Yi Yi (Taiwan/Japan, 2000, 173 min) received the Best Director Award at the Cannes 2000 Film Festival and remains one of the great films of the turn of the millennium.
