CONTEMPORARY LATITUDES FESTIVAL #24
4 – 26 june
An Afghan living room, four windows on Kabul, three intimate and powerful portraits: Afghan: Desperate vitality gives us the opportunity to hear, see and feel the daily resistance of Afghan women.
Kubra Khademi is a performer and visual artist, Mortaza Behboudi is a war reporter and director. Alongside a team of anonymous videographers from Kabul, they invite us to witness the daily struggle of Afghan women in the face of systemic violence, confinement and the gradual disappearance of their rights since the return of the Taliban. In an enclosed space designed as an Afghan living room, the story unfolds through listening, sensations and images: we discover the testimonies of Laila, founder of an underground school for girls, Souhaila, artist and singer, and Narges, a former teacher who fights to free her husband locked up by the Taliban. Deprived of education, freedom of movement and public speech, they continue to resist clandestinely, through learning, creation and transmission. The installation tells of this fragile, clandestine vitality, sometimes desperate, but still alive.
