Come and celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Escobecques town hall (town hall-school, then town hall-communal room-media library)!
The first school of ESCOBECQUES was built in 1869 on a plot of 6 to 35 ca, donated by Mrs. Augustine Fortrie on the site of the current Mediatheque Town Hall communal room (4 rue de la Forterie) to erect a school house. This school with a single and separate girls/boys class, as well as the headmaster’s house were demolished by the 1914-1918 war and rebuilt with war damage in 1926. We take advantage of this reconstruction to create a single-class school, mixed and to install the first building of the town hall (a simple room for this small village of 100 inhabitants). This building was then inaugurated in 1926 by the mayor of the time Edouard Thomas. Mr. Caron, a war-mutilated man and also the husband of the institution, was appointed town hall secretary.
To celebrate this anniversary, the municipality proposes to present the history of the town hall, the list of mayors, councilors and town hall secretaries, to reconstitute the class, to organize a dictation in pairs (child and adult) on the history of the school, with pen or pen. A photographic exhibition is also proposed.
A great opportunity to recall the history of this communal heritage, to evoke the memory of the teachers who have succeeded each other, to share memories between students and alumni, to evoke the memory of the mayors and to share memories between escobecquois and former escobecquois.
